48 hour video project -'the Game'.
Players in 'the Game'
John McGowan as the supernatural serial killer.
John Harrison who dies.
Sheng Li on the board.
Natalie Klempel at the table as my friend.(She is actually my friend)
Kirti Goenka(me) as 'the girl who lived'.
Selecting our theme from a bowl of small chits ended in us picking out a thriller. Our prop turned out to be a lighter and we had to include a line,"Greed, for lack of a better word,is good.
We sat down to decide on the story line. Thinking and discussing,we arrived at a story of a supernatural serial killer who plays a game of dice deciding on the fate of his prey by stealing their lighter and 'not' flickering which made his victims die instantly.
Sheng being an excellent 2D Artist sketched as we discussed what angle or what scene we needed to shoot. We finally finished with the story board and booked our equipment online. We then went to Laings to ask permission if we could shoot in their Beer Garden and they readily agreed. We also went to my accommodation and see if it would be apt for our indoor shoot. My flatmates readily agreed and so everything was set for the next day.
Story-Board
Next day we collected out equipment and thus began our 48 Hour Movie Project. We planned on doing all the outdoor shooting on the first and the indoor on the second day.
John H setting up camera.
John M got ready to be the supernatural serial killer.
Natalie and me sitting at the table waiting to be targeted by the killer.
On the first day of our shoot it was extremely windy. It was becoming quite difficult to read the Financial Times as the wind kept blowing it into our faces. We also wanted a close up of the heading of the newspaper but it would just not stay put. However, that did not deter us from continuing our shoot. It was an important part of the film as we had decided that The Financial Times would be our symbol of greed and thus would be apt for representing the line," Greed, for lack of a better word,is good."
We got on with the shoot, continuously referring to our 'post it' story board. Now and then, we changed the angle to see if the shot looked more sinister or creepy the other way. All of us kept coming up with different ideas that we could incorporate to make the scene look interesting.
We,finally, wrapped up our outdoor shoot and decided to meet the next day at around 9:30 AM at my place.
We tried and made my soft board look like a serial killer's game board.
Sheng as one of the victims on the killers game board.
We set up the lights and covered up the rest of desk in black to make the surroundings look as mysterious as possible. John H had printed out several photos that could be of the potential victim of our killer. We numbered them and pinned them in a circle. Then came the challenge of pinning the lighter. Nothing held it due to the texture of the soft board. Then, one of my flat mates,Jamie, came up with the idea of placing them strategically by putting up pins around it instead of using Blu Tack. It worked.
We finally completed our shooting!
the Game Begins...
